Toxins from our everyday cleaning products can interfere with the function of our thyroid. Our thyroid regulates our metabolism, endocrine, cardiovascular, neurological, and immune function (kresserinstitute.com)
These toxins can also cause chronic respiratory problems, allergic reactions, headaches, and asthma. Just so you know - Manufacturers are not obligated by U.S. law to list all ingredients in consumer cleaning products. Products that are labeled "green" do not necessarily mean they are safer. COMMON TOXINS IN OUR PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS (soaps, lotions, skin care, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, lip balm, cosmetics - the list goes on)
Formaldehyde - The most common preservative in our personal care products. It is a respiratory irritant and has been linked to an increased risk of asthma and allergies in kids. (among other things) Formaldehyde has at least 7 different names so it is sometimes difficult to identify this ingredient on the label.
A product can have organic ingredients – but if it sits on a shelf or in a warehouse – you can be sure it has preservatives in it.
Parabens - Parabens are known to disrupt hormone function, an effect that is linked to increased risk of breast cancer. Campaign for Safe Cosmetics reports that parabens have also been linked to reproductive, immunological, neurological and skin irritation problems. (Scientific American)
Phthalates - In the past few years, researchers have linked phthalates to asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, obesity and type II diabetes, neurodevelopmental issues, behavioral issues and autism spectrum disorders (The Guardian)
Triclosan - Alters hormone regulation in animals - Might contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant germs - Might be harmful to the immune system (Mayo Clinic)
