From the Publisher ......

You know you are in Minnesota when you have the air conditioner on one day and the next day you need the furnace. This weather has been crazy. Sunday night I thought my roof was going to blow off but thankfully it is still over my head keeping us safe from the bitter cold. I have a feeling we are going to jump into summer overnight this year. I do have to say that the cooler weather sure makes for good sleeping!

School is almost out for many of your kids. How are you all going to make it through the summer. I am going to pass on a fun activity for you and your family that I have done for many years and the kids all seem to love having their say in the adventures over the summer. So, what we do is shortly after school is out we all gather around the table. We have a jar and slips of paper. On each of the slips off paper we all brainstorm and decide what activities, adventures, projects, field trips, etc. that we would like to do over the summer. They can be as simple as take a book outside on a blanket and read, organize your bedroom, make a friendship bracelet, or
a special idea like a trip to Valley Fair. As a parent, you set the parameter of what is financially possible as the kids take turns adding their ideas to the jar.  We go around the table and share our ideas, we take a vote and if there is a majority approval for the idea it is added to the jar and move on to the next person's idea. This continues until your jar is full. Obviously you may not get to all of the ideas over the summer but they are there if you do. So, now when someone says, "Mom, we are bored", you know where to go for an idea or if you are just looking for something special to do for the day. Mom and Dad, don't forget to add your ideas to the jar too!

Memorial Day falls on the 3rd Monday of May and so that means that we have a 3 day week-end. Many will celebrate with family picnics (if the temperature warms up) or just spend the extra time with your family. Memorial Day is a time to commemorate and honor those who have died in a war or working in any of the military service. I am SO thankful for all of the service members that have put our lives in front of theirs. Their selflessness is much appreciated and it is so sad that some that fight for us actually die for us as well. Thank you to all of you and your family members who fight for our country.

Enjoy your Memorial Day week-end!
