I want to congratulate my very good friend and co-publisher Lori and her husband Craig for the birth of their 4th baby boy who was born this past Tuesday morning. Lori now added the littlest bundle of joy to her beautiful family. I am so thankful that both Mom and baby are doing well. Macaroni Kid brought us together as a co-publishing team for both the Farmington and Eagan sites but we will be friends forever. Congratulations to Lori, her husband Craig, and her 3 other beautiful boys. She is well on her way to an infield of ball players, a line on a hockey team, or whatever these little boys choose to be a part of. I know that they have a beautiful, caring mom and dad that will support them and love them throughout their journey of life.
Mama Duck update:
It has been so much fun watching this mama duck keep watch over her 8 eggs. Of course being that the nest is immediately next to my front door has had its ups and downs for not only her but anyone delivering a package, or just coming to visit. The scurry out of her nest has scared even the biggest most burly delivery person. However, I wanted to share that it has been so amazing to watch this duck keep watch of the eggs for her soon to be ducklings. I never knew this but she would come back each day to lay an egg or two and then back again the next day until she had 8 eggs in her nest. This has been a fun learning experience for the kids too.
I have noticed that on a day that there is going to be rain, she covers her eggs with leaves and moves them aside when she comes back to sit on them. When she leaves during the day she covers the eggs with tiny feathers from her own body.
It has been so fun to see how this mama duck mothers these eggs before they are hatched. So far she has not had any other animal destroy her nest or take her eggs. If she leaves the eggs I am sure it is to go and find food for herself or she goes out in eyes distance of her eggs. I will try and get some pictures when the baby chicks are hatched. We have done our best to stay away from her nest but I have to say that it has been fun to watch her. She has been a good mama duck.
